This makes sense as the Xonar AE should have a much better headphone amp on it than on the motherboard. The Xonar AE also sounds louder, whereas the onboard audio sounds noticeably quieter. In every one of my listening sessions, the Xonar AE sounded more vibrant. I listened to a variety of music in order to test out the sound quality 21 Savage, Migos, Synthwave, Black Metal, Lana Del Rey etc. The sound card was tested by listening to music using two different headphones, a v-moda m80 as well as a HP Omen 800 headset. We will get to the Mic settings a little later. You may also wanna turn off voice clarity and compressor under the Audio Enhancement tab as these make the audio slightly distorted. In the sonic studio software, by default the settings for reverb and virtual surround sound are turned on under the Tunings tab.

Sonic Studio software - note that right clicking on output device let's you select the impedance level for your headphones which in my case is around 32ohm, i.e. I would love to try out different op-amps in the future on this sound card. It comes with a NE5532P dual low-noise high performance op-amp by Texas Instruments. The Xonar AE also features swappable operational amplifiers (op-amp). Plus, sound quality doesn't only depend on bitrates alone. To add to this, a lot of audio and movies are not really available at the highest bitrates either, especially on Youtube or Netflix (unless you want a premium subscription), since higher bitrates means it takes up more space/bandwidth - which is also why Blu-Rays movies are so large in size. It can support upto 192kHz/24-bit audio playback due to the 6632AE high-definition audio processor by C-Media featured on the soundcard, but your onboard motherboard soundcard should be able to do 192kHz/24-bit as well.Ĭertain higher end sound cards such as the EVGA Nu Audio or Creative AE-5 and above can do much more in terms of higher bitrates but of course those sound cards tend to be ridiculously more expensive for a almost negligible improvement in audio quality, so in my view they're not worth the money. The sound card also features a EMI shielding backplate which is supposed to reduce static noise and other electro magnetic interference - more on this below.

You can select the impedance for your headphones from the Sonic Studio software which will be installed as part of the driver package for this sound card - you will find the drivers from the Asus website under the support section. The Xonar AE is also advertised as having a headphone amp which can drive headphones with a impedance of upto a 150ohm. In contrast, the onboard soundcard on my motherboard - an Asus Prime B450M-K - features a signal-to-noise ratio of only around 90dB. The Asus Xonar AE features a Signal-to-Noise ratio of a 110dB. shipping - not bad for a soundcard that retails for around $80+ brand new.

Luckily, very recently, I found a used Xonar AE for only $40 incl.

Unfortunately, for quite some time, I was either not able to find this soundcard in the market or it would rarely pop up for a ridiculously high price every now and then. There's not much information about it online but the specifications on the Asus website for this soundcard look pretty decent.

What got me thinking about soundcards was the EVGA Nu Audio which was just released around the same time I built my PC back in late 2019, but at between $150 - $250, that in my view was a little too much for ever so slightly better audio quality.Įventually I came across the Asus Xonar AE. So then, should you still get a soundcard, and why? Modern smartphones allow users to use photos from the web or photographs captured with a phone's camera can be set as a wallpaper. These days, the need for a soundcard is all but gone, especially since motherboards come with exceptional on board sound hardware.Īnd even if an onboard soundcard were to have issues, in most cases, such an issue can be resolved simply by freshly installing the latest sound drivers off of the motherboard website.

Wallpapers can typically be downloaded at no cost from various websites for modern phones (such as those running Android, iOS, or Windows Phone operating systems). The height is often greater than or equal to the width. Though most devices come with a default picture, users can usually change it to custom files of their choosing.Ī mobile wallpaper is a computer wallpaper sized to fit a mobile device such as a mobile phone, personal digital assistant or digital audio player.

On a computer it is usually for the desktop, while on a mobile phone it is usually the background for the 'home' or 'idle' screen. A wallpaper or background (also known as a desktop wallpaper, desktop background, desktop picture or desktop image on computers) is a digital image (photo, drawing etc.) used as a decorative background of a graphical user interface on the screen of a computer, mobile communications device or other electronic device.
